Radiation Treatment Technologies Unduplicated in the Region

The team of physicians at Northeast Radiation Oncology Centers (NROC) offers the most comprehensive, advanced radiation therapy technologies available in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Doctors at NROC carefully advise patients about which type of radiation therapy is most effective for their type and stage of cancer.

Specialized Therapies

Radioactive Iodine I131 therapy and Follow-up Clinic:
NROC physicians provide radioactive iodine treatment for people who require this highly specialized therapy and follow-up care after the entire or partial removal of their thyroid because of cancer. NROC was the first facility in Lackawanna County licensed and equipped for the inpatient stay that is necessary for this procedure.


NROC physicians provide this state-of-the-art radioimmunotherapy for patients with certain types of B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Also known as “liquid radiation,” radioimmunotherapy is available in Northeast Pennsylvania only at NROC.

Radioisotope Therapy:

NROC physicians provide a sophisticated radiation treatment known as radioisotope therapy for patients who are experiencing bone pain as a result of the spread of their cancer. Radioisotope treatments are available in Northeast Pennsylvania only at NROC.

Xofigo Ra223:

In the tradition of always seeking the newest and most appropriate treatment for our patients, NROC physicians began offering Xofigo as soon as it was approved by the FDA in 2013. Pronounced (Zo-feeg-oh), this Radium 223 injection is used for men whose cancer has spread after receiving medical or surgical therapy that has lowered their testosterone.

Xofigo can help extend life by more than 30% and goes to the bone, giving off strong energy that kills cancer cells, but does limited damage to nearby healthy cells. The treatment usually consists of six intravenous injections given at intervals of four weeks. To administer this therapy, doctors must have specialized training in the handling of unsealed byproduct materials, and license approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission or Department of Environmental Protection.
